Fed: Consumer watchdog to probe possible health fund merger

CANBERRA, Feb 5 AAP - The consumer watchdog will take a close look at any merger betweenhealth funds AXA and MBF and has already written to both companies seeking clarificationof their plans.

AXA today refused to comment on reports in The Australian newspaper that it was involvedin secret merger talks.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman Allan Fels said it wouldconsider any merger in terms of both national and state market share.
