PAC: Cosgrove arrives to inspect Solomons troops
Australian Defence Force chief General PETER COSGROVE has slipped into Honiara foran unannounced two-day visit.
General COSGROVE was met only by his senior military commanders at the airport beforebeing whisked away to inspect the force's pilotless spy planes, which are being used tohelp detect illegal weapons.
The Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have flown three surveillance missions out of Honiara airport.
General COSGROVE says he'll fly to Australian navy ship HMAS Manoora tonight to meetwith navy personnel before flying into the intervention's new police post at Avu Avu,near the former stronghold of surrendered militant HAROLD KEKE.
KEKE, who had been terrorising the remote Weathercoast region for two years, was chargedwith attempted murder last week and is now in the custody of the intervention force.
General COSGROVE says he'll personally pass his congratulations to the interventionforce's leaders, NICK WARNER and BEN MCDEVITT, who coaxed KEKE into surrendering.
